Before you schedule an appointment with a TreatOSA4VA provider, you must get a referral. Your VA health care team must approve your care.
You can search for a provider yourself on our website. Or ask your VA health care team to find a provider for you.
Unless you are already diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea with a valid sleep test in the last 2 years, you will need to visit your VA care provider for testing and diagnosis. They will ask you questions and schedule a sleep test. Once diagnosed they will recommend treatment. If you qualify for Oral Appliance therapy, you can be referred to a TreatOSA4VA provider.
Ask your VA health care team for a referral to the TreatOSA4VA provider. They will check your eligibility then contact you to confirm, and depending on the services at your VA center may require a consultation with a VA dentist. Once confirmed they will prepare your referral. This part of the process can take up to 14 days.
The VA will mail you an authorization letter. This letter is your approval for community care. This letter will include: an authorization number, information about your approved in-network community provider, a description of the care you will get and when you will need another referral.
Within 2 business days of your referral being sent to TreatOSA4VA, your local provider will contact you to schedule an appointment. Or you can ask your VA health care team to schedule for you. If you schedule yourself, tell your VA health care team within 14 days. Your team will put this information in your chart so they can work with your community provider.
The VA will send your referral, test results and all your medical records to your TreatOSA4VA provider. Your TreatOSA4VA provider will examine you and fit you for a custom oral appliance. Once the appliance is ready, you will return to the provider for fitting and adjustment. There may be additional testing to ensure the treatment is working.
If you are not currently enrolled in the VA healthcare system, you may still qualify for sleep apnea and snoring treatment through the VA. Apply online by going to www.va.gov/healthbenefits/enroll or by calling 1-877-222-VETS (1-877-222-8387)
